Join us for a fun and stress-free tax prep session for artists and cultural workers! At this tailored drop-in workshop, experts Amy Smith and Logan Cryer will guide you through the basics of taxes for artists, including separating personal and artistic finances, Schedule C filing, self-employment versus employment, and tracking deductions. The party will feature DJ sets from the Chester Gifted Program.
Amy Smith is a dance and theater artist, educator, and facilitator. In addition to tax preparation, she provides financial well-being workshops, works with clients one-on-one giving financial advice, consults with arts organizations, and co-facilitates anti-racism sessions with co-facilitators of color. She was co-founder and co-director of Headlong Dance Theater until she left in 2019 to pursue freelance work. Amy trained everyone in this collective, and brought them together to serve artists and demystify/translate tax rules. She has experience doing bookkeeping and financial management for small and medium sized businesses, and preparing corporate, non-profit and partnership returns, but prefers preparing returns for individuals and single-member LLCs. Amy is not taking new clients at this time.
Logan Cryer is a curator and writer with a penchant for local art histories. Based in Philadelphia, Logan is the co-curator of Icebox Project Space, a large-scale experimental gallery space focused on supporting local artists and organizers. Logan is a regular contributor for ArtBlog and The Philadelphia Citizen. In addition to the arts, Logan works as a tax preparer and as a bookkeeper for arts organizations.
This event is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Folklore Project, Asian Arts Initiative, and Philadelphia Tax Prep for Artists.
