Artists

If you are looking to learn a new art form or hire artists for a performance, workshop, or exhibit, this list of local and extraordinary folk and traditional artists can be of service. Philadelphia is home to talented artists who have been recognized at local, state, national, and international realms for their contribution to their crafts. Some of these artists are legendary within particular communities and others have earned our highest honors, such as Pew Fellowships in the Arts, by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage and National Heritage Fellowships, awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts.

This list of folk artists introduces you to a handful of the artists in our midst through short biographies and samples of their work. Included are people and groups who have been featured in our programs or received technical assistance from us over the past few years. Consult PFP residencies, exhibits, publications, and videos to learn more about these artists and their traditions.

If you would like to hire one of these artists or if you are a folk or traditional artist interested in working with PFP and becoming part of this list, please email us at pfp@folkloreproject.org.
