Paintings of My Neighborhood
(1997)

Frito Bastien, a Haitian painter living in Philadelphia, illustrates his life story through paintings. In addition to being a portrait of Frito, this piece is intended to help students think about the place of art in someone’s life: how it can help people express themselves, express unpopular or taboo views in safer ways, remember home, find solace and comfort in a new place.
