book coverPart Three: PART THREE: LESSON 6 (K-4): Some Cambodian dance motions

by Chamroeun Yin

Each hand motion has a word, and you can combine them in different ways to make meaning.

[picture image] When you hold two "leaves" out like this, it means you are blocking something. When Rama wants to block the deer, he holds his hands like this.

[picture image] Here, his right hand holds a knife and his left had makes a leaf: this motion means "kill."

[picture image] This motion means "beautiful."

[picture images] Some motions don't have a specific meaning. Sometimes, you are just dancing - using motions to create a feeling.
